35 players have been called up by Head Coach Milena Bertolini for Italy Women’s two friendlies in June. The only new call-up is Sassuolo midfielder Martina Tomaselli, who will join the Azzure for the first time in her career. The squad will come together on the evening of 5 June at the Olympic training centre in Tirrenia, where they will begin preparations with a double session the following day.
Two months on from their most recent outings – the double friendly against Iceland on the Enzo Bearzot pitch – Italy Women are back in action for their final two games of the season. The Azzurre will take on the Netherlands at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara on 10 June (17:30 CEST) before heading to Wiener Neustadt (a small city north-east of Vienna) to take on Austria on 14 June (16:30 CEST).
This is all part of the preparation for Euro 2022. After the victory over Israel and the joy at having reached their goal, the Azzurre are gearing up to write a new page in their history. The Azzurre will, in September, also begin qualification for the 2023 World Cup.
The Azzurre have played the Netherlands on 17 occasions and the record to date favours Italy; eight wins, five draws and four defeats. The most recent meeting between the two sides was at the 2019 World Cup when the Dutch won 2-0 and knocked Milena Bertolini’s side out at the quarter-final stage.
Italy have played Austria four times: three wins and a draw (0-0 on 7 March 2016 in a friendly, also the last meeting between the two).
NOTE FOR THE PRESS – From tomorrow, Thursday 27 May, until Friday 4 June (12:00 CEST), the method for accreditations for the game at the Paolo Mazza will be open exclusively via the online FIGC portal www.accreditations.figc.it.
