After the test on 29 October against the World Champions, Spain, we face Germany, who are currently ranked fourth in the World. Just more than one month after the brilliant evening in Vicenza, which finished 1-1 against the Red Fury in front of approximately 5000 fans, the Women's National team will be back in action for the final game of the year. Our 29th game against the German side will take place on Monday 2 December in Bochum (20:30 CET, live on RaiSport).
At the Ruhrstadion, a stadium with a capacity of 26,000, the Azzurre will play their eleventh match of 2024, after finishing top of their EURO 2025 qualifying group (Group draw takes place in Lausanne on 16 December). For the match against Horst Hrubesch’s side, Head Coach Andrea Soncin has decided to select 29 players. The new arrivals to the group are the goalkeeper Matilde Copetti, one of the key instigators of Parma’s great start to the season (leader of the second tier with just three goals conceded), the Lazio defender Federica D’Auria and the Como midfielder Nadine Nischler, top scorer in the Serie A with six goals in ten appearances. The group will meet at Coverciano on the morning of Tuesday 26 and head for Bochum on Sunday 1 December.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS. The total balance in results favours the current European Championship runners-up, who have won 16 of the previous 28 games. The Azzurre have instead won four matches, with the most recent victory coming in the World Cup of 1988 (winning goal from Barbara Ferrigno). Italy have only gained one point during their seven trips to Germany, coming in the 1-1 draw in 1989 in Seigen. This European Championships semi-final was won by the Germans on penalties in the end, allowing them to go on to beat Norway in the final four days later.
Italy would have played - who have two world cups, eight european championships, one gold and three bronze medals at the olympics - against Germany in the final of the 2020 Algarve Cup, but on the eve of the match, the team were forced to leave Portugal, due to the start of the pandemic.
