A month on from their matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Sweden (a 2-1 victory followed by a 1-1 draw), the Under-21 National Team are ready to continue their European qualifying journey. Their next fixture – their fifth of the group – will be against the Republic of Ireland on Friday 12 November at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin. Second in the standings on ten points – one behind Sweden, who, however, have played a game more, Italy will be looking to extend their lead over Montenegro and the Republic of Ireland, both of whom have collected seven points so far. Bosnia are fifth with five points, while Luxembourg are bottom with one.
Following their game against the Bosnians, the U21s will face Romania in a friendly at the Stadio Benito Stripe in Frosinone. Head Coach Paolo Nicolato has called up 25 Azzurrini for the two clashes, with Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini and Heracles Almelo full-back Giacomo Quagliata being named in the squad for the first time.
The group will meet up at the Tirrenia Olympic Training Centre on Sunday evening and, starting from the next day, begin their preparations with two daily sessions. They’ll depart for Dunlin on Wednesday 10 November.
