Italy move up to 13th place in the FIFA rankings

The Azzurre will come together on Sunday 18 June to start preparations for the World Cup. They will train in Reischach (in the Province of Bruneck in Südtirol) for ten days before heading down to Ferrara where they will take on Morocco at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in a friendly. Departure for New Zealand is scheduled for 5 July.
The Emilian city has hosted Italy on five occasions, including the game on 6 September 2022 which saw the Azzurre qualify for the World Cup. The choice to play there was taken as a sign of solidarity with the local populace, who have been affected by the flooding in the region. “Ferrara has always been a hotspot of fantastic support for the Azzurre,” said FIGC President Gabriele Gravina. “We hope that this can be a chance for sharing and friendship, under the auspices of the Azzurre colours, for the region of Emilia-Romagna.”
Milena Bertolini has called up 24 players for the first week of work. As well as Beccari, Dragoni and Schatzer, who took part in the previous training camp, a lot of youngsters will join the group after impressing recently. Fleury 91 defender Piga and Longo have received their first call-ups. With the exception of Cernoia, Glionna and the aforementioned Schatzer, the players of Juventus and Roma won’t join the team after being given an extra week off to recover from the Coppa Italia FS Italiane on 4 June.
The squad list for the second camp – also in Reischach – will be announced on Friday 23 June.
