Almost three months later, they found themselves in front of each other, again in the Museo del Calcio rooms: it was 28 November 2023 when head coach, Andrea Soncin, visited the museum in Coverciano, discovering the memorabilia kept here thanks to an expert guide and president of the Museo del Calcio Foundation, Matteo Marani. “Here you can really feel the magic of the Azzurri,” underlined the coach, who then, at the next meeting with his players, said: “We have to donate something to the museum that represents us…”.
And so, three months later, that promise was kept: this morning, Soncin - who is currently in Coverciano with his Azzurre in preparation for the double friendly header with the Republic of Ireland and England - arrived at the museum to hand over the pennant from the historic Italian victory on Spanish soil, in the Nations League, at the home of the reigning world champions.
“From today" – underlined Matteo Marani – "a very beautiful and important item enriches the Museo del Calcio in Coverciano. Coach Soncin promised to bring us something from his experiences in the Azzurre dugout and he has kept his word: the pennant from a prestigious victory like the one in Pontevedra last December will become part of our museum's collection. From myself and the Museum, a big thank you to the coach, the Azzurre and all the people who work for the movement."
