‘Shades of Azzurro’ at the Museo Napoleonico: the Museo del Calcio’s travelling exhibition makes a stop in Rome

On the occasion of the Italian National Team’s next match against North Macedonia, the travelling exhibition of memorabilia from the Museo del Calcio’s next stop will be in Rome.

‘Shades of Azzurro’ is the title of the travelling exhibition, transporting the most beautiful items from the Coverciano museum all around the country. It will be hosted at the Museo Napoleonico in Piazza di Ponte Umberto I, from Thursday 16 to Sunday 20 November. Entrance will be free and open from 10:00 until 18:00 (last entrance at 17:30).

‘The mission of the Museo del Calcio,’ underlined President of the Museo del Calcio Foundation, Matteo Marani, ‘is to impart the values and culture of the sport: our travelling exhibitions further this aim and the fact that our next exhibition is in Rome, in the setting of the Museo Napoleonico is a great source of pleasure. Our thanks go to the Department for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of the Municipality of Rome for its availability and patronage of the exhibition.’

There will be an extensive collection of memorabilia on display for visitors, starting with a focus on players who wore the Roma and Lazio shirts. The Azzurri shirts of De Sisti (1967), Re Cecconi (1974), Giordano (1985), Ancelotti (1986), Casirgahi (1994), Totti (1998) and De Rossi (2011).

But there will be more than just shirts exhibited: fans of football will also be able to see the balls used in the 2006 World Cup Final and the 1968 and 2021 European Championships Finals. The final act of the 1968 tournament was played at the Stadio Olimpico and the pennant from that match against Yugoslavia as well as that from the Euro2020 match against Wales, also played in Rome, will be on display.

As well as players’ boots and goalkeepers’ gloves, visitors will also be able to relive the 1982 World Cup Final: thanks to virtual reality, wearing a headset, fans will be able to experience the feeling of being on the pitch, next to the likes of Bruno Conti, Pablito Rossi and Spillo Altobelli, or being in the stands between the President of the Italian Republic Pertini and the King of Spain, Juan Carlos. This virtual reality project, ‘VR4Football’ was developed by Noema Digital.
