Remembering the Heysel tragedy

A day that made a lasting mark on football, not only in Italy. To remember that dramatic day 39 years ago, on 29 May, when thirty-nine fans died at the Heysel stadium, the president of the Football Museum Foundation, Matteo Marani, and the president of the Association of Relatives of Heysel Victims, Andrea Lorentini, met elementary school children from the Calasanziane Institute in Florence today.

“This meeting is the result of a collaboration between our association and the Football Museum," underlined Lorentini. "For us, it is a privilege to collaborate with those who preserve the memory of Italian football. I once again thank President Marani and all his collaborators for their availability and sensitivity. Telling the students what happened that evening has a double value: it makes us remember such a tragic moment and it makes the younger generation understand that it is possible to experience sport in a healthy way, an educational value to ensure that there is no more violence".
