FIFA Museum dedicates an exhibition to Paolo Rossi
The Board Meeting Room at FIGC headquarters in Via Allegri has been named after the great Italy championThursday, February 2, 2023
A true champion in the hearts of millions of supporters, and a real star who left his mark on an era, above all in that Spanish summer of 1982: Paolo Rossi is still today a symbol of Italian football, a man capable of hitting a hat-trick against a talented Brazil side at the World Cup in Spain, dragging his team to lift football's biggest trophy for the third time thanks to his six goals.
To celebrate the footballer, and the man, FIFA - in collaboration with the Paolo Rossi Foundation (Fondazione Paolo Rossi) - has organised a temporary exhibition in its museum in Zurich, starting from 10 February until 26 March, titled ‘Paolo Rossi: un ragazzo d’oro’ ('a golden boy').
As seen in FIFA museum's official statement, the exhibition will not only span his footballing career but also look at his personal life, with memories from friends, family and his teammates.
‘Pablito’ is a pillar of Italian football history and in the Museo del Calcio in Coverciano (Museum of Football) there are several pieces of memorabilia on show, starting with his now 'legendary' number 20 shirt worn at the 1982 World Cup in Spain. His football boots and the shirt worn four years prior, in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, are also part of the collection.
Paolo Rossi's memory is also alive and kicking in the FIGC's central headquarters in Via Allegri after the Board Meeting Room was named after him.
In honour of the striker, who entered Italy's football Hall of Fame in 2016, a special painted ball made by Paraguayan artist Lili Cantero was also donated to the Football museum in Coverciano.
