Welcome event for the UEFA Super Cup in Udine. Gravina: “A model of collaboration to promote football at all levels”

Just hours before the UEFA Super Cup, scheduled for 21:00 CEST tonight at the Stadio Friuli between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur. Udinese have welcomed the teams by kicking off the day with a special event. Organised in collaboration with Promoturismo FVG and Bluenergy, and held at Fondazione Friuli, the event aims to put the Bianconeri Club in the spotlight, both on and off the pitch.

The event opened with the customary institutional speeches, delivered by the chairman of the Fondazione Fiuli, Bruno Malattia, the mayor the Udine, Alberto Felice De Toni, and the FIGC chairman, Gabriele Gravina. This was followed by the first of two scheduled morning panels, dedicated to sustainability, a cause that Udinenese have championed for years. Speakers included Magda Pozzo, UEFA Executive Director of Social and Environmental Sustainability, Michele Uva, and Bluenergy CEO Alberta Gervasio.

The second panel turned the focus onto football itself, with three champions who have written unforgettable chapters in Udinese’s history: Oliver Bierhoff, Gerard Deulofeu, and Gokhan Inler. The event came to an end with closing remarks from Udinese Calcio’s chief executive, Franco Collavino.

“A very warm and honourable welcome to the Pozzo family, Mayor De Toni, and President Fedriga, thanks to whom we have begun a season of rewarding collaboration for the promotion of football in this region at every level,” said Chairman Gravina. “A friendship and collaboration that has become a benchmark for all other areas of the country because it is through synergies like this one that we can lay the foundations for the development of the local sports community, which is capable of leaving a lasting legacy. Awarding the final to Udine is also a tribute to the Pozzo family and Udinese’s vision in the spirit of comprehensive sustainability that we are strongly committed to promoting today, and I am certain it will serve as an incentive for the entire Italian football system, one that must be ready for another significant challenge, won with conviction and determination by the FIGC: hosting EURO 2032.

The Super Cup is the perfect opportunity to show the rest of the world what Udinese is about and to share the message closest to our hearts.” Said Magda Pozzo. “It’s no coincidence that we chose to dedicate one of the two panels at this event to sustainability, a hugely important topic for our club, and one of the aspects that most impressed UEFA during the selection process that led to the Bluenergy Stadium being chosen as the stage for this historic match.”

“I’m proud because after months of preparations, the Super Cup matchday is finally here” said Chief Executive Franco Collavino. “It’s a recognition of the work Udinese has done over the years, both on and off the pitch, which has made the club a model at the international level.” Udine and Friuli Venezia Giulia are hosting the final of a European competition, and this is possible because of a stadium like the Bluenergy Stadium, a sustainable, state-of-the-art facility. I would like to thank the Municipality, the Region, UEFA, FIGC, and everyone who made this historic match possible. Now, we look ahead towards new ambitions, starting with the dream of hosting EURO 2032.”

“It is a great honour for us to host an event of such magnitude in our city, but an event like this doesn’t just happen by chance," said Udine’s mayor, Alberto Felice De Toni. “The credit lies with the Pozzo family, whom I thank for their dedicated commitment and Serie A football, and to the great sporting tradition of Friuli, which has produced so many champions in football and other sports. For Udine, it is a great celebration, and for our stadium, a source of pride to host a competition that places our city at the heart of Europe."
