The FIGC and LILT sign a new memorandum of understanding to prevent and fight cancer

The FIGC is once again stepping onto the pitch alongside LILT (Lega Italiana per Lotta contro i Tumori – Italian Cancer League) to contribute to cancer prevention and the fight against cancer. A new memorandum of understanding has been signed between the FIGC and LILT, who will collaborate for another three years on promoting cancer prevention and reducing the incidence of cancer. The agreement aims to encourage sports practice, especially among young people, and promote education on healthy lifestyles through informational and awareness campaigns through the participation of men’s and women’s National Team players in ambassador roles.

The FIGC and LILT will contribute to the realisation of projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of citizens through collaborative activities that raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis.

Programmes and interventions focused on health education and the practice of football will be targeted towards children and adolescents, and they will also take place in collaboration with the Youth and School Sector, the Italian Referees Association, the Technical Centre, the Women’s Football Division and the Paralympic Football Division.

“Supporting prevention is a duty for the FIGC," said President Gabriele Gravina. “Doing this alongside LILT, a serious and prestigious partner, is a source of pride. In civil society, the football world can play a decisive role in promoting a comprehensive culture of health protection, starting first and foremost with the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The Federation decided long ago to take on this responsibility, achieving significant results in terms of feedback and participation. We want to make the extraordinary communicative power of football available to experts in the field so that the message can be heard, especially by a young audience.”

“Our collaboration with the football world, which involves millions of people - especially young people - represents a valuable opportunity to spread the culture of prevention, promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis,” said LILT President Francesco Schittulli. “We’re excited to renew this synergy with the FIGC, a strategic partner in our fight against cancer. With its values and its ability to inspire, sport is a crucial vehicle for educating citizens - especially the new generations - about the importance of health and proper daily behaviours. We’d therefore like to express our gratitude to the FIGC for continuing to support us. Thanks to the communicative power of sport and the example of its champions, we can reach an ever-growing audience and spread a strong and impactful message.”
