The Azzurri take to the field for research alongside the AIRC
Head Coach Luciano Spalletti's side confirm their commitment to the campaign 'A Goal for Research' on the occasion of the Nations League match against France on 17 November in MilanMonday, November 11, 2024
The Nations League match against France, scheduled for Sunday 17 November at Stadio 'Giuseppe Meazza' in Milan, will end 'A Goal for Research', the historical campaign of Fondazione AIRC promoted in collaboration with FIGC, Lega Serie A, Enilive, AIA and with the support of sporting media.
The Azzurri have collected testimonies from players from the Serie A Enilive, who took to the field last weekend, continuing the mobilisation of the footballing world alongside 6,000 researchers from laboratories from other 100 institutions all over the country in an effort to improve the prevention, diagnosis and curing of cancer.
This kick off for 'A Goal for Research' is scheduled for Thursday 7 November, on the occasion of the early game of the 12th Matchday in the league. The research relay continued across all of the Serie A Enilive pitches, finishing at the Nations League match against France. Players, coaches and referees have invited fans to join the sides in the fight for research by scoring as many goals as possible to render cancer even more curable through SMS donations or telephone calls to the number 45521.
The team for this years 'A Goal for Research' is even more competitive, led by the Head of the Delegation of the National Side, Gianluigi Buffon, the first person to wear the new shirt with the colours of research of Fondazione AIRC. Alongside Gaia Buonaurio and Ernesto Cigliano, who were cured for a tumour when they were teenagers, and the researchers Giorgia Foggetti (Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele di Milano), who studies the genetic factors that can aid the curing of brain tumours, and Simone Patergnani (Università degli Studi di Ferrara) who works on the molecular mechanisms at the base of Pleuric mesothelioma.
The team have been able to rely on support from the contributions of ambassadors Francesco Acerbi, Lorenzo De Silvestri, Valentina Giacinti and Claudio Marchisio. All of them are ready to don the shirt to renew their commitment by the side of the scientists at AIRC and promote awareness of prevention and the value of research through their social media channels.
