The 20 qualified nations all select their training camp locations: Switzerland opt for Rome
The Azzurri will train at Coverciano while the Swiss National Team will prepare at Roma’s training centre in TrigoriaTuesday, January 28, 2020
UEFA has announced each of the training camp locations selected by the 20 sides to have qualified for the final stage of EURO 2020 (four more to come from the play-offs in March). Although the Azzurri’s decision to train at Coverciano was never in question, Italy will now have another guest after Switzerland selected AS Roma’s Fulvio Bernardini Training Centre in Trigoria as their base for the tournament.
The Swiss and the Azzurri face off on matchday two of Group A in UEFA EURO 2020, kick-off scheduled for 21:00 CET on Wednesday 17 June at the Stadio Olimpico, which will also be the setting for the tournament opener as Roberto Mancini's side faces Turkey on the 12th and Wales on Sunday 21 June.
Switzerland will only place once at the Olimpico against Italy, their other matches against Wales and Turkey taking place in Baku, but have chosen Rome as their base location for the tournament after completing their initial preparations in Bad Ragaz from 25 May to 5 June. Switzerland will fly directly from Zurich to Baku on 8 June for their match against Wales five days later at 15:00 CET, then heading straight to Rome after the game. The team will stay at the Hotel Sheraton Parco de’ Medici and will train at the Fulvio Bernardini Training Centre in Trigoria. Ironically, their Head Coach for the tournament will be Vladimir Petković, S.S. Lazio’s manager from the summer of 2012 to January 2014.
Italy’s UEFA EURO 2020 preparations are set to begin at the end of May, with Serie A concluding on 24 May. The Azzurri will meet at Coverciano at the beginning of June, then travelling to Rome the day before the game and returning to Florence immediately after full-time. The Azzurri’s pre-tournament friendlies are also confirmed: four big matches against England on 27 March in London, Germany on 31 March in Nuremberg, San Marino on 29 May in Cagliari and finally the Czech Republic on 4 June in Bologna.
Wales and Turkey will both play two of their Group A games in Baku, with both nations choosing to base their training camps in the Azerbaijani capital.
