Sostenabilia, the new FIGC platform for social and environmental sustainability

The Italian Football Federation has launched Sostenabilia, the new multimedia platform created to enhance and catalog all the initiatives developed within the Social and Environmental Sustainability Strategy of the FIGC, launched in July 2023.

With this new tool, the aim is to record all the activities carried out every day on and off the pitch to make football more respectful of human rights and the environment. The FIGC is at the forefront nationally and internationally, creating a real change in the world of football.

Sostenabilia (www.sostenabilia.it) has been created to inform and involve as many people as possible, starting from all the stakeholders: players, coaches, managers, fans, families, institutions and other members, providing exclusive contents such as video tutorials, cartoons, infographics, media galleries, reportage, territorial projects, events, awareness campaigns, training and institutional activities. The new platform also aims to generate interaction through new and modern ways to communicate.

‘With the presentation of the Sustainability Strategy, the FIGC has shown commitment and responsibility towards civil society,' says president Gabriele Gravina. 'Sostenabilia is the concrete demonstration of how much we believe in football's ability to improve the quality of life in different communities. We are investing in professional resources so that, thanks to the FIGC's leadership role, football will increasingly be focused on well-being, understood in its broadest sense, with humanity at the centre, similar to the concept of a new ‘Sports Humanism’ that had inspired my candidature for the federal presidency in 2018.'

Organised into 11 sections, corresponding to the Policies of the FIGC Social and Environmental Sustainability Strategy, oriented towards the UEFA Sustainability Strategy, the platform includes dedicated spaces with special foci: Anti-Racism, Protection of Minors, Equality and Inclusion, Football for all Abilities, Health and Wellbeing, Support for Refugees, Emergency and Rights, Circular Economy, Climate Emergency, Sustainability of Events and Sustainability of Infrastructures.

Main objectives of the project:

To offer constantly updated news and information on the topic of Social and Environmental Sustainability within a unique and easily accessible website;

To showcase role models in the world of football, bringing attention to the most exciting stories and the most courageous projects, in order to emphasise the values we treasure;

Engaging with and inspiring a wider audience, from clubs, to participants, to fans, promoting a culture of sustainability through football;

Providing educational resources such as video tutorials, cartoons and infographics related to sustainability for football schools, coaches and trainers engaged in educational activities at various levels.
