After the Euros, postponed to 2021, that see the Olimpico in Rome host the opening game and three more matches, Italy could be chosen to host another prestigious event in international football.
The UEFA Executive Committee, which met today in Budapest, has just announced that Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and the Juventus Stadium in Turin are candidates to host the finals of the UEFA Nations League 2021. The Final Four, to be played between 6 and 10 October 2021, will be hosted in whichever nation wins Group 1 of League A (Italy, Netherlands or Poland - Bosnia and Herzegovina were not nominated and, should they win the group, the Executive Committee will decided the venues).
FIGC sent UEFA an 11-chapter dossier on the candidature, which was drawn up with full support from the Italian government, the sporting system and Italian football, by the local authorities of the candidate cities, by the owners and operators of the stadia (M-I Stadio, FC Internazionale di Milano, AC Milan and Juventus FC) and training facilities, as well as by the principle stakeholders and local air travel and public transport. The first introductory chapter was relative to the preparation of the dossier; the second on the motivations of the Federation to hold such an event, on the FIGC’s mission of developing football at all levels; the third on social responsibility and sustainability of the event; the fourth on legal issues; the fifth on security; the sixth on the stadia and a series of technical specifications of the venues to host the finals; the seventh on transport and air travel; the eighth on hotels and training grounds for use of the four teams in the finals; the ninth on promotion; the tenth on advertising and business activities; the eleventh on admin and finance aspects.
On 3 December 2020, after the conclusion of the Nations League group stages, the UEFA Executive Committee will announce the host nation for the Final Four, also based on the final standings in the groups.
