Meeting on the innovative impact of EURO 2023 at the Polytechnic University of Milan

The FIGC’s General Secretary, Marco Brunelli, this morning took part in a talk at the Polytechnic University of Milan titled ‘EURO 2023: A chance for innovation in culture, economy and environment”, organised for the International Master’s course in Sport Design and Management.

Italy (alongside Türkiyye) being awarded the 2032 European football championship presents the country with a real chance for cultural, economic and environmental innovation and an interconnected model of organisation: from social inclusion to infrastructure and urban regeneration, from the enhancement of existing ideals (cultural, environmental, identity) to the promotion of a positive legacy following the event. This is an opportunity for our country and the interested host cities to undergo urban regeneration and value generation, as well as the renewal of the sports facilities involved.

“It’s necessary to anticipate the needs of the future,” Brunelli outlined, “and taking advantage of any opportunities that arise is one the FIGC’s core strategies. Now, having been awarded the hosting rights for EURO 2023, this commitment has become more important and more delicate. Being able to complete this task alongside the Polytechnic University of Milan, helping to shape the professionals of the future, is a privilege for us and a responsibility that we feel very keenly.”

“The topic of big sporting events has is more prevalent than ever before,” said Emilio Faroldi, Vice-Chancellor of the Polytechnic University of Milan, “and requires an approach that puts education as the core element in driving the vision and action of the future of the world of sport in all its many declinations at the centre of the debate.”

During the meeting, the seventh round of post-graduate of the International Master’s in Sport Design and Management was ushered in, and students from the last cohort also received their Degrees. The Master’s, organised in conjunction with the largest institutions in Italian sport (CONI, FIGC and ICS), aims to educate young professionals, who are able to achieve gainful employment in the design, planning, project management, construction and management of sporting infrastructure, public spaces for sport and widespread sports venues, according to transversal and multidisciplinary logic and skills.
