Marco Guida and Daniele Orsato among the 18 referees selected by UEFA for EURO 2024
The referees, their referee assistant teams, and the video match officials and support match officials have been announcedTuesday, April 23, 2024
Marco Guida and Daniele Orsato are the two Italian referees who have been selected for UEFA EURO 2024. This was announced by the UEFA Referees Committee, who confirmed the names of the 18 officials who will take charge of the 51 games at the Euros this summer. Guida will have Filippo Meli and Giorgio Peretti as his assistants, while Orsato’s linesmen will be Ciro Carbone and Alessandro Giallatini. A further two Italians - Massimiliano Irrati and Paolo Valeri - will be on VAR duty.
“It’s a brilliant achievement and the result of the great technical work that is being carried out,” said AIA president Carlo Pacifici. “This represents international recognition of the Italian refereeing movement, which is continuously growing whatever the role, be it referees, assistants or video match officials. Both worldwide and at European level, our officials are considered dependable again. We work in constant and fruitful collaboration with figures within FIFA, UEFA and other international federations. Within our setup, we have first-rate officials who take part in the main international competitions, as well as young referees who, under the guidance of our coaches, are growing and represent the future of the Italian Referees’ Association.”
Refereeing teams at each match will consist of a referee, two assistant referees, a fourth official, a reserve assistant referee at the stadium, as well as a team of three video match officials. During the tournament, the referees, referee assistants and support referees will have their base camp in Frankfurt. The video match officials will be based in Leipzig, where they will operate from the International Broadcast Centre while matches are taking place.
"UEFA EURO 2024 is the pinnacle of European national team football with the best teams competing, and that’s why we have selected the best referees to officiate these matches,” said Roberto Rosetti, UEFA managing director of refereeing. “All chosen referees have performed consistently to the highest standards in UEFA’s top competitions, and also in their domestic competitions. They have prepared exceptionally well to be in this position, and we have full confidence in them to show their quality at the final tournament.”
In addition, as was the case for EURO 2020 and as part of the cooperation between UEFA and the South American Football Confederation CONMEBOL, a referee from Argentina, Facundo Tello, together with his two assistants, will join the European group of referees at the final tournament in Germany.
