He celebrated in the Wembley stands together with thousands of other Italian supporters, before returning to Rome late at night to participate first in the meeting of the National Council of CONI and then in the Federal Council meeting. Gabriele Gravina is ready to return to London this weekend for the last trip of this unforgettable first-ever travelling Euros, in which Roberto Mancini's national team is driving an entire country crazy with joy.
As the National Council of CONI met this morning in the Hall of Honour in Palazzo H, the FIGC president unveiled the Azzurri 'Walk of Fame' tile at the Foro Italico dedicated to Paolo Rossi, and then received compliments from another head of Italian sport, Giovanni Malagò: "We’re making Italians proud in many sports, particularly with the Italian national football team. A standing ovation for Gabriele Gravina and Roberto Mancini" declared Malagò.
In an aside from the Federal Council meeting in the afternoon, the FIGC president returned to yesterday's success for the Azzurri: "The best result isn’t having reached the final - he stressed - but all that the result brings to the country. This national team is a symbol of Italy's unity. It’s the result of a simple yet extraordinary equation: It is heart, and soul, and courage".
