Goodbye, Giacomo Losi. Gravina: “An example of integrity”

The FIGC and president, Gabriele Gravina, express their condolences to the family of Giacomo Losi, the ex-Roma defender who passed away yesterday at the age of 88. This evening, a minute's silence will be held ahead of the Serie A game on Matchday 23 between Roma and Cagliari.

Gravina spoke: “Little after Gigi Riva, Italian football has lost another important icon who dedicated his career to a single team, becoming a cornerstone of the side and building a strong connection with the city despite being from elsewhere. He was an example of integrity on and off the pitch, a true captain who found his way into the hearts of fans across the generations”.

He started in the Soncinese Youth Sector having been born in Soncino, province of Cremona, and after two seasons with Cremonese, winning promotion to Serie C, he moved to Roma. There he played for 15 seasons between 1954 and 1969: he made 386 appearances for the Giallorossi (299 as captain) and sits third for all-time number of appearances behind Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi. He won an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and two Coppa Italias in the capital, earning himself the nickname ‘Core de Roma’ (Heart of Rome). His experience with the Italy squad was less fortunate with 11 appearances and participating in the 1962 World Cup.
