General Assembly convened for 3 February
President Gravina: “I want to see whether the prerequisites are there to lead the Federation with renewed calmness and a forward-thinking project for Italian football”. From the first game of the girone di ritorno, a throw-in level with the 18-yard line of the penalty area will be trialled in Primavera 1 as a sanction for the goalkeeper holding the ball for too longThursday, November 21, 2024
During the Federal Council meeting today, and following approval of the Federal Statue from the CONI National Board, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina informed the Council of the decision to convene a General Assembly on 3 February at the Hotel Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria in Rome with the purview of renewing certain roles. “We published the electoral regulations, which also take into account the statutory amendments that were approved by the Assembly on 4 November,” Gravina said. “CONI has approved the new statute, proof of the correct application of our laws and general principles.”
On his candidacy for re-election, Gravina, in his press conference after the council meeting, reaffirmed that the “discussions are very open, inspired by the principles of democracy. From these discussions, I will take everything into account and then announce my decisions. I’m aware that my numbers are good but I want to see whether the prerequisites are there to lead the Federation with renewed calmness and a forward-thinking project for Italian football. They can choose, and we need to understand.” One of the key components is Lega Serie A: “We recognise the requests from some of the Serie A clubs in terms of autonomy, despite the fact that it doesn’t fall under any codified law. I will keep saying: now is not the time for disagreement but for project building.”
NATIONAL LICENSES. In his communiqué, General Secretary Marco Brunelli outlined the guidelines to define the National Licenses for the 2025/26 season, with the aim of taking it to the next December’s Federal Council meeting for approval. In the meantime, the technical bodies will come together next week to look at each point in detail. “We’re starting a new model for National Licenses,” Gravina continued, “which will draw on the one from last year but with some new features, which will have a huge impact on keeping tabs on management.”
JUNE TRANSFER WINDOW. Given the new format of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, on request from Lega Serie A and pending the definition of the specific regulations, a decision has been made to authorise an additional transfer window from 1 to 10 June 2025.
NEW LAWS. Following a request on 22 August from the FIGC to IFAB to begin trialling experimental laws of the game, on request from Serie A and after consulting the AIA, the Council has decided to trial a new law in the male Primavera 1 division. From the start of the girone di ritorno (second half of the season), teams will be awarded a throw-in level with the penalty area (18 yards) for the opposition goalkeeper holding on to the ball for too long. “This is just one of an array of proposals sent by the FIGC to IFAB,” Gravina stated. “Among the others, which were presented in August of this year, there is: the application of in-play time, the adoption of Football Video Support in national competitions with a TV production of at least three cameras, the chance for referees to explain their decisions on the big screen at the stadium, and VAR challenges.”
WOMEN’S COMPETITIONS. After a discussion between Professional Women’s Serie A and the national team, considering the international football calendar and the commitments of players in domestic competitions, in order to allow the athletes to go into the Euros in the best possible shape, a decision has been made to partially modify the schedule for the second round of the league and the Coppa Italia, bringing the conclusion of both forward by one week.
