For the European Week of Sport that lasts from 23 to 30 September, Gillette and the FIGC Youth and School sector will be present in Monza (MB) with ‘Play Days’, the program of events all over Italy that are dedicated to the promotion of football for young girls in club youth sectors.
The event at the “Luigi Berlusconi” Sports Centre in Monza will take place on Saturday 14 October from 14:30 to 17:00 CEST and will see over 650 children taking part. Designed for all families that are interested in sports activities for their children, the program has seen over 1,700 children participating over various days dedicated to entertainment and sports. The instalment in Monza will follow two other main events in the “Play Days” program, the first in Novara and the second in San Giuliano Terme, Pisa on Monday 9.
Play Days represents a new and important step in the project “Passion for football makes no distinctions” between the FIGC and Gillette that aims to make a positive cultural impact on the perception of women’s football and form a solid foundation for the movement in Italy. The project has not only spoken to players but also to families and in particular, fathers: in fact, though women’s football is a growing phenomenon, there is still a lot of prejudice surrounding it, especially between parents of young girls. Alongside Gillette, some of the Azzurre participated in the initiative. Lisa Boattin, Barbara Bonansea, Valentina Giacinti, Laura Giuliani, Manuela Giugliano, and Elena Linari were joined by their parents, Gillette Ambassadors, Bobo Vieri and Alessandro Cattelan, and Cristiana Capotondi as patroness and sponsor.
Paolo Grue, President and Administrative Delegate for Proctor & Gamble in Italy, explained: “Gillette is always involved with the world of men’s football and sport. Bringing such an iconic brand closer to women’s sports and the educational activities that aim to fight prejudices against young girls represents the values of the entire P&G group regarding gender equality and inclusion. A brand like Gillette is recognisable to millions of people and we have decided to align ourselves with women’s football to show the public how important it is to support freedom for all those who want to play”.
Gabriele Gravina stated: “The collaboration with Gillette is having an extraordinary impact, both on the number of young girls involved in football and on the social message. The promotion of women’s football in Italy comes with a profound cultural revolution, in which the FIGC is playing its part. Thanks to initiatives like these, we aim to remove obstacles to the world of sport that may exist within families: let girls play, football is for everyone!”.
Play Days from Gillette and the FIGC Youth and School sector will be in every region of Italy from 23 September to 15 October. It will be an opportunity to spend a day out on the pitch to discover and fall in love with the beautiful game.
