A delegation from the FIGC visited the Molecular Oncology Institute of Fondazione AIRC. Gravina: 'Proud to support and sustain research'

This afternoon a delegation from the FIGC composed of the President Gabriele Gravina, of the Secretary General Marco Brunelli and Head of the Delegation of the National Team Gianluigi Buffon visited IFOM, the Molecular Oncology Institute of Fondazione AIRC, adding another element to the 20 year strong partnership between the two organisations. 

The delegation, welcomed and accompanied by the President of the AIRC Andrea Sironi, President IFOM Giovanni Azzone, the AIRC's representative legal advisor Daniele Finocchiaro and the CEO of IFOM Enrico De Santis, have been able to concretely see the result of the support of the research on Cancer, speaking with the Scientific Director of IFOM Alberto Bardelli and other research during the visit to the laboratories. 

AIRC carries out scientific research surrounding Oncology using the structures of IFOM, Institute of Molecular Oncology created in 1998 by the Foundation, centre of international excellence where human and technological resources are concentrated on the study of the development of tumours. 

"This visit to our laboratories - stated the President of Fondazione AIRC, Andrea Sironi - and the game on Sunday for the National side, show that the FIGC and the world of football have a concrete contribution to research on treating cancer, further reinforcing the collaboration between the AIRC and FIGC". 

"The FIGC is proud to support the oncological research thanks to a brilliant partnership like the one we have with the AIRC. Through communication and testimony from the world of football, also thanks to the involvement from the National sides, we want to contribute to the field with value and scientific excellences which directly affects the health of lots and lots of people" The Federal President Gabriele Gravina stated. 

THE AZZURRI TAKE TO THE FIELD FOR AIRC. The Nations League match between Italy and France scheduled for Sunday 17 November at the Stadio 'Giuseppe Meazza' in Milan, will mark the end of 'A Goal for Research', the campaign from Fondazione AIRC dedicated to football fans promoted in collaboration with FIGC, Lega Serie A, Enilive and AIA. The Azzurri have collected testimonies from players in the league of Serie A Enilive, having taken to the field for AIRC last weekend. During the live match on Rai1, journalists from RaiSport will invite spectators to donate money towards sustaining 6,000 researchers in their work in laboratories of around 100 institutions all over the countries, to improve prevention, diagnoses and the cure of cancer. 

THE AIRC TEAM FOR A GOAL FOR RESEARCH. The AIRC team will count on an even more competitive linuep this year, led by Gianluigi Buffon, the first to wear the new shirt with the colours of the Fondazione AIRC and by ambassadors Francesco Acerbi, Lorenzo De Silvestri, Valentina Giacinti and Claudio Marchisio. THE AIRC PRIZE TO BUFFON. On 28 October, the president of the Republic Sergio Mattarella awarded Gianluigi Buffon with the AIRC prize 'Believe in the Research', for having publicised how people can get involved, to personal title and as the head of the delegation fo the National Side, the young generations in the initiatives of divulgence of Fondazione AIRC, contributing, with authentic participation and awareness through sport, to share the values of AIRC in coherence with messages about prevention.
