A total of 126,000 euros have been raised, an increase of 56,000 on 2022. The ‘A Goal for Research’ fundraising campaign was a great success, taking place during the match between Italy and North Macedonia on 17 November, and saw the FIGC alongside the cancer research foundation, the AIRC.
This figure represents an extraordinary success for the Federation, achieved thanks to all those who contributed to the initiative including Head Coach, Luciano Spalletti, Head of the Delegation, Gianluigi Buffon, and the Azzurri who headed out on the pitch as ambassadors for the AIRC.
In the days ahead of the game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the FIGC and Fondazione AIRC signed a memorandum of understanding that saw the Federation commit to continued support of the ‘A Goal for Research’ campaign: the Fondazione AIRC’s historic fundraising initiative, with the whole of the football world getting involved in the ‘Giorni della Ricerca’ (‘Days of Research’) initiative. Between 2015 and 2022, 1.2 million euros were raised, a figure which amounts to 48 annual scholarships for young researchers in Italy.
