Valentina Cernoia is the Best Azzurra from Italy 3-0 Croatia, a win that keeps the Italian women in the lead in Group G with maximum points so far on their qualifying journey towards the 2023 World Cup.
The midfielder earned 44.4% of votes cast by fans on the FIGC website, ahead of second-placed Valeria Pirone (16.7%) and Cristiana Girelli (11.1%).
Cernoia had the honour of unlocking the match after only 105 seconds of play, with a left-footed shot into the corner. Shooting from distance is one of her strong points: she tried her luck in the 28th minute but was met with a good save by the Croatian goalkeeper Bacic, while at the beginning of the second half her free-kick passed just to the side of the opposition goal. In the 77th minute, she again came close to netting her brace, but her shot from 25 yards hit the post. Having put in a leading performance, she has now been rewarded by the votes of fans of the national team.
