Uno Storico Europeo: the grand finale today! Azzurri champions and fans involved as the campaign hits over 20 million views

With Italy vs. Yugoslavia from EURO 1968, the Azzurri’s run in the #UnoStoricoEuropeo campaign comes to an end, the initiative from the FIGC having been a huge success in celebrating Italy’s history in the elite continental competition.

From 12 June to 12 July, the period in which UEFA EURO 2020 was set to be played, the Azzurri’s website and social media channels shared content from Italy’s thrilling history in the European Championship, helping fans relive the Azzurri’s most iconic games in the elite continental competition. The run of seven games in the campaign began with a look back at the 1988 tournament opener against West Germany, a game in which Italy Coach Roberto Mancini scored his first goal in Azzurri colours, before moving on to some of the most fondly remembered games in Azzurri history, with the round of 16 clash against Spain in 2016, the quarter-final against England in 2012 and the semi-final against tournament hosts the Netherlands in the year 2000.

All of the matches were presented with highlights and the original RAI commentary, multimedia galleries, statistics and editorial content provided by the FIGC’s media partners (La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Tuttosport, as well as contributions from Radio Italia with Italian music from the year of each game). The campaign also included seven exclusive interviews with seven Azzurri champions who played starring roles in the games, as Vialli, Antognoni, Perrotta, Barzagli, Marchisio, Toldo and De Sisti all opened up about their most memorable moments from each of the games and a handful of other tales about their time in an Azzurri shirt.

The “Uno Storico Europeo” campaign was a great success, going down brilliantly with Azzurri fans as the content received 20.6 million views on the Italian National Team’s social media profiles, with 385,000 engagements from the nation’s fans.
