Italy Women have qualified for the European Championship for the seventh time in a row. The only time they failed to progress to the competition was all the way back in 1995 (in Germany).
The 12-0 success over Israel was Italy’s biggest victory during their Euro 2022 qualifying campaign and, in general, their largest win since they beat Macedonia 15-0 in September 2014.
As was the case for the 2017 tournament, Italy have qualified for the European Championship as one of the best runners-up. During their last qualifying campaign, they picked up 18 points from eight matches (an average of 2.3 per game). This time around, they’ve collected 25 points from ten fixtures (an average of 2.5 per match).
Italy won eight of their ten matches to qualify for Euro 2022, beating Israel both home and away.
Cristiana Girelli, Elisa Bartoli and Laura Giuliani are the three Italian players who featured in all ten of the qualifying matches.
Cristiana Girelli is the player who found the net the most times during Italy’s qualifying campaign: nine goals in ten appearances for the Juventus striker.
Following her goal against Israel, Cristiana Girelli become one of seven players and the only Italian to score at least nine goals in Euro 2022 qualifying.
Valentina Giacinti’s goal against Israel after two and a half minutes was the fastest that Italy scored during their Euro 2022 qualifying campaign.
Three of the four goals scored by Valentina Giacinti in these qualifiers came against Israel (she scored both at home and away).
Against Israel, Barbara Bonansea made her fourth appearance of Italy’s qualifying campaign and scored her first two goals.
Italy’s match against Israel saw the Azzurre score five times in the opening 30 minutes for the first time in Euro 2022 qualifying.
