Happy birthday to Alessandro Florenzi who turns 29 today!

Alessandro Florenzi was born in Rome on 11 March 1991. His versatility allows him to effectively cover all roles in midfield as well as those of a full-back and winger.

A product of Roma’s youth academy, Florenzi found a great admirer in Bruno Conti and made his debut with the Giallorossi at the age of 20 after coming on for another world champion, Francesco Totti. After an excellent season in Serie B with Crotone, he became a key figure in Roma’s team so much so that he earned his first U21 national team call up and then a senior team call up. He was a key player for the Azzurrini in the 2013 Under-21 Euros all the way from qualifying through to the unfortunate loss in the final against Spain in Jerusalem. Last January he moved to Valencia on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.

It was Cesare Prandelli who opened the doors of the senior team to him on 14 November 2012 when he was 21 years old in a friendly match against France. One year later, in the final qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup against Armenia, Florenzi scored his first goal for the Azzurri. In 2016 he took part in the European Championship in France, playing four games as a starter. So far, he has registered 35 appearances for the Azzurri scoring two goals.
