Federico Chiesa was born in Genoa on 25 October 1997. He is a technically gifted winger and is particularly adept in one-on-one situations. He started his career in the youth ranks at Fiorentina before breaking into the Viola’s first team in 2016/17. He made his professional debut on 8 December 2016 in the Europa League against Azerbaijani outfit Qarabağ FK. He really settled into the professional game during the following season, making 41 appearances and scoring 12 goals for Fiorentina. He stayed in Florence until October 2020 when he made the move north to join Juventus. He scored 14 in 43 games in his first season and also contributed to the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia titles with Juventus, even scoring in the cup final against Atalanta.
After featuring at Under-19 and Under-20 level, he was then called up for Italy U21 by Di Biagio in March 2017. He then attended a training camp for promising players under head coach Ventura and played in a friendly against San Marino on 31 May 2017. He also received a call-up to the first team by Gigi Di Biagio and made his full international debut in a friendly on 28 March 2018 against Argentina and was around for the beginning of the Mancini era. He scored his first goal for Italy on 18 November 2019 in a 9-1 win in Palermo against Armenia in EURO 2020 qualifying. Chiesa was a key player for the Azzurri in the finals of the tournament last summer and scored against Austria at Wembley and against Spain in the semi-final. He was crowned a European champion at Wembley on 11 July after the final against England. He has, thus far, he has made 36 appearances and scored four goals for Italy.
