Mattia De Sciglio is celebrating his 27th birthday today. His football career started out at Milan in the city where he was born in 1992. He came through the Rossoneri’s youth ranks and went on to make his Champions League debut at the age of 18. His first Serie A appearance came on 10 April 2012, when he was involved in Milan’s game against Chievo in Verona.
A talent who is able to play at both right and left full-back, he became a key player for the Rossoneri and a permanent fixture in the squad. In the summer of 2017, Mattia was signed by Juventus.
As regards his international career, De Sciglio played for the Under-19 and Under-21 National Teams before making his debut for the senior side on 21 March 2013 with Prandelli at the helm. It wasn’t just any debut either given that he played from the first minute in Italy’s prestigious friendly against Brazil in Geneva.
He was then named in the squad for the 2013 Confederations Cup, playing three times from the group stage through to the third-place playoff won by Uruguay. At the age of just 21, he later played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where an injury reduced him to just the one appearance in the group stage against Uruguay.
De Sciglio remained an important player under Antonio Conte, playing a big role at the 2016 European Championship. So far, Mattia has earned 39 international caps.
