The best Italian performers on matchday five according to the media
Two forwards and two goalkeepers have made the cut following excellent displays during the first midweek fixtures of the 2019/20 Serie A seasonFriday, September 27, 2019
Here are the players who earned the highest ratings in the bestselling Italian sports newspapers (La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport) for their matchday five performances.
Andrea BELOTTI (G 7; C 8; T 8) Torino 2-1 Milan
A fantastic quick-fire double from the Torino man, who inspired a Granata comeback after a difficult opening 45 minutes for his side. After missing a glorious chance to level the match on the stroke of half-time, Belotti more than made up for this with a second-half brace that was undoubtedly important for Torino’s morale as they moved on up the league.
Salvatore SIRIGU (G 7,5; C 7,5; T 8) Torino 2-1 Milan
It wasn’t just Belotti who was responsible for the Granata’s win: Sirigu ensured that Torino stayed in the game in the first half as the Rossoneri piled on the pressure. He was only beaten by a penalty and his stunning last-gasp save to deny Piatek was the equivalent of a goal.
Marco MANCOSU (G 7; C 7,5; T 7,5) SPAL 1-3 Lecce
Lecce’s striker played a vital role as the Giallorossi emerged victorious in a game that could prove decisive in the battle to avoid the drop come the end of the season. He coolly slotted home two penalties, one of which he earned himself. He’s now scored four goals in five outings, certainly not a bad goal average.
Andrea CONSIGLI (G 7; C 8; T 7) Parma 1-0 Sassuolo
It was only thanks to the ball unluckily ricocheting off his own teammate in the dying seconds that he was beaten on matchday five. Up until that point, he’d been a brick wall, quite literally saving everything.
