The Serie A season is coming to an end on Sunday, and one of the final fixtures will see Sassuolo take on Lazio in a showdown that has a hint of Europe about it. The two teams, who will face each other in Reggio Emilia, are separated by eleven points: the hosts, who are competing with Roma for a place in the new Conference League next season, are eighth on 59 points, while the Biancocelesti, who have already secured a spot in the 2021/22 Europa League, are sixth with 68 points to their name.

The statistical head-to-head for matchday 38 (made possible by the stats section on our website, Figc.it) pits Francesco Caputo against Ciro Immobile.

During the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, Immobile has made eleven more appearances than his Neroverdi counterpart (35 vs. 24) and played an average of 81.88 minutes per match compared to 69.45 minutes for Caputo. Noteworthy is the fact that the Lazio man has made significantly more starts than the Neroverdi striker (34 vs. 19).

As regards the attacking side of things, the former Pescara player has scored nine more goals (20 vs. 11), provided one more assist (6 vs. 5) and created 36 more goalscoring opportunities (47 vs. 11). Caputo, however, has been more precise with his shooting (54.5% vs. 52.6%).

Both are known for their sacrificial spirit, but, looking at the statistics, the Biancocelesti striker has contributed more in defence. Indeed, the 31-year-old from Torre Annunziata has made more defensive clearances (8 vs. 3), interceptions (6 vs. 1) and successful challenges (13 vs. 0).

As regards build-up play, while Immobile comes out on top in terms of successful passes (642 vs. 312), Caputo has been more accurate when playing the ball to his teammates, both in general (78% vs. 74%) and when only the opposition half of the pitch is considered (75% vs. 70.9%).

When it comes to discipline, the Lazio marksman has been on the end of more fouls than the Sassuolo attacker, who, however, has been penalised on fewer occasions (15 fouls committed compared to Immobile’s 37). Nevertheless, Caputo has received more bookings (3 vs. 1), although the Biancocelesti man is the only one out of the duo to have been sent off (once).
