The first matchday of the second half of the season concludes on Sunday evening (20:45 CET) with a clash between Roma and Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi, who won last time out thanks to a last-gasp winner against Spezia, are third in the table, six points behind leaders AC Milan. Hellas, meanwhile, are in eighth and will be in high spirits going into this weekend after a win brilliant win against Napoli.

The statistical head-to-head for matchday 20 (made possible by the stats section on our website) pits Lorenzo Pellegrini against Mattia Zaccagni.

Both players have featured in all 19 games this season; Pellegrini has started 16 of these (1,404 minutes played) to Zaccagni’s 17 (1,432’). Both of them have been subbed off on ten occasions.

They both have an eye for goal, but there’s more to their game than just scoring. Until now, Zaccagni has scored five goals and provided five assists, while Pellegrini is close behind with four goals and as many assists. The Roma man dominates when it comes to chances created: 34 to Zaccagni’s 14 and has had more shots on target (13 vs. 10). In terms of shooting accuracy, Zaccagni leads the way with 76.9% of his shots beind on target to Pellegrini’s 59.1%.

In terms of distribution, Pellegrini has the best numbers. He has completed a total of 602 passes (325 for Zaccagni), with an accuracy rating of 83.4% (vs. 73.4%), which drops to 73.7% in the opposition half (vs. 64.2%). The two are equal for number of dribbles completed: 29 apiece.

Pellegrini is more active in the defensive phase, with the Roma man having won more duels (16 vs. 9), made more clearances (14 vs. 6) and more interceptions (29 vs. 14). The Verona player, meanwhile, has made more blocks: four to his opponent’s two.

Finally, on a disciplinary level, Zaccagni has drawn more fouls: the Verona midfielder has been fouled 54 times, double that of Pellegrini (27). The Giallorossi star, however, has committed more fouls (23 vs. 17), while they are both level on four bookings.
