Italians in Serie A: the statistics reward Gianluca Scamacca on Matchday 8
The Sassuolo striker was the best Italian player from the last round of league fixtures according to the Opta IndexTuesday, October 19, 2021
A brace after twenty minutes, his first goals for Sassuolo in Serie A, and the first against the team that brought him to the fore last season: his performance in Genoa 2-2 Sassuolo earned Gianluca Scamacca the title of the best Italian performer on matchday eight.
Genoa's defenders know him well, yet the striker born in ’99 was unstoppable on Sunday, even for his former teammates. The Neroverde striker repaid the confidence placed in him for making his first start by playing a perfect game. At the 'Ferraris', he only needed 12 minutes: Raspadori set him nicely in front of Sirigu he didn’t falter. Technology prevailed, however, as it was ruled out for offside. This only postponed the celebrations: in the 17th minute, Berardi played a ball in which Scamacca pounced on after rebound before hitting the target with a right-footed effort. The striker repeated the feat after just three minutes, slotting home a nice assist from Toljan and scoring his brace. During the match, the Rossoblù rearguard did their best to keep him contained, but he remained an absolute protagonist of the match in Genoa for the whole match.
Two goals, three shots on target, four shots in total (more than any teammate on the pitch, only fewer than Mattia Destro in the match at the ‘Ferraris’) and 100% of his aerial duels won (3/3). Scamacca is undoubtedly the player who made the biggest difference in the last round of Serie A. He adds another two goals to his good streak of scoring away from home: his second away brace in the top flight (the first came against Parma last March), the 22-year-old from Rome has so far scored 80% of his Serie A goals away from home (8/10).
