Italians in Serie A: Andrea Pinamonti stands out on matchday 34
The Empoli striker, who bagged a brace against Napoli, was the best Italian player in the latest round of league fixtures according to Opta IndexTuesday, April 26, 2022
According to Opta data, Andrea Pinamonti is the MVP from matchday 34 in Serie A. With two goals, he played a decisive role in Empoli’s comeback victory over Napoli at the Castellani, showing all the qualities of a real striker. The Inter loanee has now scored twelve times in the league season, one more than in the previous three seasons combined (playing for Frosinone, Inter and Genoa). The 22-year-old from Trentino has really started to shine again, and it’s no coincidence that he’s the only attacker who has found the net in each of the past four Serie A seasons out of all of those born after 01/01/1999. Furthermore, he’s become the first Empoli player to bag more than ten goals in a single top-flight campaign since a certain Francesco Caputo did so in 2018/19 (16).
His goals against Napoli were the result of a highly intense performance. During the game at the Castellani, Pinamonti was the only one to have more than one shot on target (two) and was one of the three players who had the most shots (four, the same as Insigne, behind Osimen with six). Only Osimhen did better than him in terms of number of duels (14 compared 12) and headed duels (seven compared to five). Among his own teammates, the Empoli attacker created the most chances (three), which, beyond his goals, serves of proof of just how involved he was in Empoli’s attacking moves. A complete striker and someone who Andreazzoli has used very well this season.
