Gaetano Castrovilli was the best Italian player on matchday five in Serie A according to the top three sports newspapers in Italy.
The midfielder was the undisputed star in Fiorentina's game against Udinese: he scored two goals and provided an assist in the Viola’s 3-2 win at the Stadio Franchi. His performance earned him an average score of eight, with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Tuttosport all giving him the same rating.
In the eleventh minute, Castrovilli scored the opening goal, finishing off Biraghi’s assist in the middle of the area. Ten minutes later, Fiorentina doubled their lead as Milenkovic headed home Castrovilli’s perfect cross. The highlight of the evening then came in the 51st minute: after receiving the ball from Biraghi once more, he shook off his marker with a feint to the right and blasted the ball into the net, securing a 3-1 win for his team.
In the game against Udinese, Castrovilli scored his first ever Serie A brace, as a result of which he’s now found the net four times after the first five matchdays in the Italian top flight. It’s already his best ever haul in the league, with the midfielder having surpassed the three goals he scored in 33 appearances last season.
