Gaetano Castrovilli rated as best Italian player on matchday 23 by the media
The Fiorentina midfielder was a star of the show against Spezia as the Viola ran out 3-0 winnersTuesday, February 23, 2021
Gaetano Castrovilli was the best Italian player on matchday 23 in Serie A according to the top three sports newspapers in Italy.
His excellent performance against Spezia earned him an average rating of 7.5, unanimously awarded to him by the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Tuttosport.
Coming on from the bench towards the end of the first half, he ran the show: an exquisite assist for Vlahovic to give Fiorentina a 1-0 lead, a goal for himself to make it 2-0 with a half-volley on his left in the 68th minute, and so many other examples of excellent play, such as starting the counter-attack which led to the final goal of the 3-0 victory.
He hadn’t scored in the league since the Viola’s 3-2 home victory against Udinese on 25 October. This is a nice sign of a comeback for him and for Fiorentina, who are hoping that the Castrovilli from the beginning of the season is back.
