Over the summer, Antonio Conte was determined to keep him at Inter despite a number of offers to take him away for a season so he could play more often and gain experience. So in some ways, it was a surprising decision to keep him. On Saturday night at San Siro, Sebastiano Esposito really broke through to show that he has what it takes to play at the highest level.
Quick, skilful and incisive. These are three adjectives that you can use to describe the 17-year-old from Castellammare di Stabia who can play across different positions up front. Inter has been his second home after he came through their various youth sides and Conte started him alongside Lukaku for the last match of the calendar year and he made the most of the chance by scoring a historic goal.
In a selfless and rare gesture, the Belgian forward allowed the youngster to take the penalty which he stepped up to take like a veteran, scoring to score his first Serie A goal at the age of 17 and 172 days. He’s now the second-youngest scorer in the history of Inter, behind only Mario Corso by a few days and he’s the youngest Inter goalscorer at the Stadio Meazza. An early Christmas present to really be embraced!
