The promising young talent Gaetano Castrovilli writes his name onto the prestigious list of scorers in Italy’s highest division, building his reputation as one of Italy’s biggest rising stars at the start of this league campaign which has seen him making his case for a starting spot at Fiorentina.
The versatile midfielder, born in 1997, scored his first Serie A goal on the most prestigious stage of them all; San Siro, “La Scala del Calcio” as many like to call the historic stadium in Milan. The goal came at the end of a truly remarkable individual and team performance which saw Montella’s side dominate AC Milan, coming away with a deserved 3-1 win at the end of the game. A huge success for both the team and Castrovilli himself and an exciting sign of what’s still to come.
It’s his intelligence, quality and selflessness in his play that is making the rising star at “I Viola” stand out from the crowd, not to mention his sublime skill at times. A penalty won, a goal disallowed, and then, finally, the joy of a first goal in Serie A meant that he left his mark on the match, and deservedly so.
Castrovilli is one of those players usually defined as “modern”: hard-working, versatile, with incisive movement and technical ability, without losing his goal threat and attacker’s instinct. It was that final quality that allowed him to latch onto Donnarumma’s spilled save, thumping the ball into the net for the delight of his first league goal.
