Andrea Consigli was the best Italian player on matchday eleven in Serie A according to the top three sports newspapers in Italy.
The Sassuolo goalkeeper managed to keep a clean sheet against Benevento, allowing De Zerbi’s side to pick up a narrow win. His display merited an average score of 8.17: the Corriere dello Sport-Stadio awarded him a 9, while La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport gave him an 8 and a 7.5 respectively.
He really did keep everything out, with three saves standing out in particular. At the beginning of the second half, he managed to push away a close-range strike from Insigne which was heading into the top corner. Shortly afterwards, he tipped Caprari’s fine effort over the bar. Finally, he showed wonderful reflexes to stop Lapadula from finding the net with a header. Three gems that were worth three points for Sassuolo, who continue to fly high.
