Alessio Cragno and Lorenzo Pellegrini were the best Italian players on matchday 35 in Serie A according to the ratings of the three principal sports newspapers in the country.
The goalkeeper put in a stellar performance in Cagliari’s away win over Benevento, which the Giallorossi man shone as Roma cruised past Crotone with a 5-0 win at the Olimpico. Both players received an average rating of 7.5 thanks to the evaluations of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Tuttosport.
Cragno rescued his team on three occasions, all in the first half. On the half-hour mark, he was alert to the danger and made a smart stop at his near post to deny Caprari. Eight minutes later, he displayed incredible reflexes to keep Schiattarella’s header out. Finally, with one minute left in the first half, he denied Caprari once again, this time from a close-range headed effort. It was a vital win for Cagliari in the relegation battle as they pull four points clear of the drop zone.
Pellegrini starred at the Olimpico, scoring a brace for the Giallorossi. His first goal (70’) was a really tidy finish; the ball dropped to the Roma midfielder directly from the throw-in, he skipped past Golemic and slotted it into the far corner. His second goal (73’) was also brimming with quality; Mkhitaryan fed him on the edge of the boy and the former Sassuolo man left Cordaz with no chance as he rifled it into the bottom corner. He also had a hand in Roma’s fourth goal just five minutes later as he played an inch-perfect through ball to Karsdorp, who set up the Armenian Mkhitaryan to score. The Italy and Roma midfielder now has seven league goals this season.
